The IKERLAN technology centre is participating in the European i4Q project, where it is working on the development of a "zero defects" solution, which will increase the competitiveness of manufacturers of industrial and end products. Through the European i4Q project, IKERLAN is working on the development of a modular suite based on the Internet of Things (IoT) that will have an impact on key manufacturing processes, increasing the productivity of industrial equipment by around 10 %, reducing start-up times by up to 15 % and marketing times by 10 %. It will also reduce scrap by at least 50 %. Due to its characteristics, this solution can be implemented in both large companies and SMEs, promoting the digital transformation of companies that, due to their limited resources, run the risk of losing competitiveness in the context of industry 4.0.
The i4Q suite, consisting of software products, methodologies, models and consulting services, will support the monitoring and control of manufacturing lines by managing huge amounts of data from small, cost-effective, interconnected and intelligent devices. It will do so by ensuring data reliability with functions grouped into five core capabilities around the complete industrial data cycle: sensing, communication, IT infrastructure, storage and analysis and optimisation. To this end, it will include simulation, prescription and optimisation tools for continuous process qualification of the manufacturing line, quality diagnosis, reconfiguration and certification to ensure high manufacturing efficiency, leading to an integrated approach to “zero-defect” manufacturing.
The i4Q suite will be validated in six industrial scenarios with a high technological component and growing demand for high quality products, with the need to digitise factories and ensure data reliability. These pilot validations will be carried out with machine tool suppliers and production companies in the household appliance, metal, plastic, ceramics and wood sectors, for which data exploitation is essential for optimising production quality.
Ana Gómez, IKERLAN researcher on the project, explains: "The i4Q solution can be adapted and integrated in different manufacturing scenarios for different companies and at different levels of maturity. Its modular approach and the interoperability of the elements that make it up allows the company to independently acquire those that best suit its needs, which makes it an ideal resource for SMEs". He continues: "The challenge we set ourselves at IKERLAN is to offer an innovative solution that increases the competitiveness and quality of our customers' products, as cutting-edge technology transfer is what gives meaning to our activity".

i4Q (Industrial Data Services for Quality Control in Smart Manufacturing) is a project aligned with the digital and sustainable factory concept promoted by IKERLAN, funded by almost 10 million euros by the European Union's H2020 Programme under grant agreement no. 958205.
IKERLAN will participate in the project until its completion in 2024, as part of a robust consortium made up of 24 entities of 11 nationalities covering all the required areas of knowledge and testing: implementers, technology providers, research centres, companies specialising in legal aspects, communication and exploitation of results, as well as six industrial partners in the role of users of the solution.
