Today, IKERLAN held the seventh edition of the day of recognition for its doctoral students. It did so in collaboration with the municipal company Bilbao Ekintza in a special event held at the facilities of the Ensanche building in Bilbao, the city where the technology centre opened its third headquarters at the beginning of the year. The conference is part of the actions carried out by IKERLAN in its commitment to the training and specialisation of its researchers as one of its strategic and differential axes.
During the day, 49 doctoral students presented the details of their work in two categories, poster or T3M (thesis presentation in three minutes).
At the opening of the event, IKERLAN's general manager, Ion Etxeberria, underlined the work and effort of these doctoral students, emphasising the importance of the results of their theses in contributing value and knowledge to IKERLAN, to the surrounding companies and to society in general. "Thanks to the research staff who do their doctorate with us, we are constantly renewing and strengthening ourselves", he stressed. The event was attended by more than 120 people, including doctoral students, tutors and mentors, researchers and guests.
The general manager of Bilbao Ekintza, Javier Garcinuño, has indicated that for the Bilbao City Council, the work of IKERLAN is of "great importance, as it added to our strategy of providing the city with talent, and all this together with the business field, thus reinforcing the training role".
Currently, 34 % of the 400 people in IKERLAN are qualified doctors. In 2022, 14 theses were completed and 14 new ones were started, while 44 were still in progress. The centre invests 1,7M€ euros annually in the training, professionalisation and specialisation of its pool student. Thanks to the collaboration with more than a dozen universities, today IKERLAN has 52 research theses in progress, framed in the main research lines of the centre.
