- This event, a world reference in its field, took place in Montreal from 20 to 24 September
- IK4-IKERLAN offered four talks in which it explained its developments made in conjunction with companies and universities
IK4-IKERLAN was one of the leading speakers at one of the top events in the field of power electronics in the world, the Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), held from 20 to 24 September in Montreal (Canada).
At the congress the centre shared with the scientific community its advances in the spheres linked to power electronics and energy management and showcased its capabilities through specific developments in these areas. IK4-IKERLAN also had the chance to pick out new advances in research into subjects in which it is interested, and reinforced ties with the universities and companies attending.
The centre played a leading role at this event thanks to its top positioning in research into power electronics and its proximity to the market; these have enabled it to participate in four of the talks in the programme. In the course of them it presented the developments made in conjunction with the universities and companies it collaborates with.
The talks
In the sphere of energy storage, IK4-IKERLAN gave a talk on the analysis of the second life of storage systems for use in the integration of renewables, work that it has carried out together with the company Abengoa and the Danish University of Aalborg.
In the field of battery management, it gave a talk on management strategies for smart photovoltaic plants capable of incorporating energy storage systems to improve their integration into the power grid and thus achieve better use of the potential of renewable energies.
Finally, as regards transport, the centre shared its knowledge in two talks: one on the development of power converters based on new silicon carbide semiconductors for contact-free energy transfer, and another, given together with representatives of the company CAF, on energy management for trams with onboard storage systems.
“A unique occasion”
“Enjoying this prominence was for us a unique occasion to show the scientific and business community the latest advances we have developed at IK4-IKERLAN,” said the researcher Unai Viscarret. “Our presence at ECCE also enabled us to find out about the trends in the field of power electronics, which are of key importance for the centre,” he added.
About ECCE 2015
ECCE 2015, one of the world’s most important events devoted to energy conversion, took place in Montreal (Canada) from 20 to 24 September. It was the seventh edition of this event organised by the Power Electronics Society (PELS) and the Industry Application Society (IAS).
The top companies, research centres and universities across the world involved in the field of power electronics came together to share information about the state of the art and discuss the new trends.
IK4-IKERLAN was one of the few participants from Spain at this event, which brought together the leading figures in power electronics.
About IK4-IKERLAN
IK4-IKERLAN is a leading centre in technology transfer and in the contribution of competitive value to companies, thanks to its capacity to offer comprehensive solutions by combining various technological domains. This is possible due to its high degree of expertise in six major areas: embedded systems, power electronics, microtechnologies, energy efficiency and storage, mechatronics and advanced manufacturing.
