The technology centre IK4-IKERLAN and the company microLIQUID came together to join forces in research activities and to share facilities with the aim of improving the competitive value of both companies.

This collaboration will focus in particular on research and development in the field of microsystems, an area in which Microliquid develops microfluidic component chips. Both companies have already worked together on different R&D and innovation projects in developing microdevices and Smart Systems, and through this alliance, joint research will continue in these knowledge areas and in their implementation in different industrial sectors.

In addition, until 2020, microLIQUID will use the facilities of the Sala Blanca, located in the Polo Garaia building owned by IK4-IKERLAN, for the development of these products, which require high-precision infrastructure.

The infrastructure of the Sala Blanca includes laboratories equipped with cutting-edge technology and specialised equipment. This will allow for rigorous control of the conditions necessary for manufacturing and the characteristics of the microdevices.

The director of IK4-IKERLAN, Marcelino Caballero, and his counterpart at microLIQUID, Borja Barredo, today signed a collaboration agreement between the two companies, which will be in effect until 2020.

"We are absolutely delighted with this agreement because it helps strengthen our role as a technology centre which aims to transfer knowledge and boost the competitiveness of the companies in our environment", said Caballero.

“This agreement with IK4-IKERLAN allows us to increase our specialised microsystem and Smart Systems development and manufacturing capabilities, which provide the actual microfluidic device with sensor and performance capabilities to develop the highly specialised products microLIQUID offer”, added Barredo.

Both companies today signed an agreement until 2020 to collaborate in research and development activities in the field of microsystems
