• The alliance between the two entities will promote the use of the Basque language in all environments associated with the collaboration. 

FAGOR ARRASATE and its R&D unit KONIKER have renewed their technological collaboration agreement with the technology centre IKERLAN. The aim is to continue developing and applying cutting-edge technologies in the areas of smart factory (digital twins and predictive maintenance), structural reliability and cybersecurity. 

Unai López, Director of FAGOR ARRASATE, Andoitz Aranburu, President of KONIKER, and Ion Etxeberria, Director of IKERLAN, signed the collaboration agreement during a meeting held at FAGOR ARRASATE's facilities in Arrasate-Mondragón. The agreement consolidates, for the next three years, the close relationship that has existed between the two companies for 50 years, as FAGOR ARRASATE has been one of IKERLAN's user partner companies since the creation of the Technology Centre in 1974.  This technological collaboration is a clear example of the cooperation that the Technology Centre maintains with companies in order to identify their challenges / needs and transfer solutions with high added value to the industrial sector. 


Areas of cooperation 

IKERLAN has extensive experience in the development of cutting-edge technologies related to the areas of work covered by the new agreement: digital twins and predictive maintenance within smart factory systems, structural reliability and cybersecurity. Thanks to its multi-technological capacity and the high level of specialisation of its professionals, the technology centre will be able to solve the challenges of smart industry. In addition, IKERLAN is recognised for attracting, training and transferring highly qualified personnel to the industry. Technology and specialised people, together with the Basque language, are the three pillars that will drive this collaboration. 

Industrial cybersecurity constitutes one of FAGOR ARRASATE's priority work areas, derived from the increasingly deep degree of connectivity of its machines. So much so that FAGOR ARRASATE has been participating for years in several European projects whose objective is the development of innovative solutions that protect complex ICT infrastructures and make them resistant to cyber attacks. 

Ion Etxeberria, CEO of IKERLAN, stressed that "we are very proud to strengthen our relationship with FAGOR ARRASATE and KONIKER. We have been trusted companions for many years and we know that the sum of our capacities will allow us to meet the challenges we face in terms of specialisation and talent, as well as generating new technological solutions applied to production processes and the final product".

Promoting the Basque language 

The cooperation agreement also includes an explicit commitment to promote the Basque language among the three entities. FAGOR ARRASATE, KONIKER and IKERLAN will promote Basque as a working language within the three entities. 


The collaboration will strengthen the development of technology in the areas of smart factories, structural reliability and cybersecurity.
