UP2DATE focuses on the development of new technologies that allow for the remote and secure updating of software in critical transportation systems such as cars and trains. These are systems where security is a key factor, and a failure can result in significant economic losses and even a serious threat to human life.
These remote updates (OTASU, Over The Air Software Updates) are conducted on high-performance computing platforms, which have superior capacity and sophistication. That is why UP2DATE, in addition to working on the security of the design itself and the update mechanism, will develop monitoring solutions that supervise the behaviour of the system at each software update, in order to ensure their safety and to avoid the risk of a cyber security attack. The project will provide a strategy for future certification in functional safety standards (IEC-61508, ISO-26262) and cyber security (IEC-62443, ISO-21434).
These new technologies will allow, through procedures similar to smartphone updates, installation of the latest control systems or correction of programming errors without the need for repairs or travel.
our contribution
IKERLAN will be primarily involved in security-related activities, contributing its prior experience in functional safety and cyber security.
Thus, it will undertake a variety of activities, including defining a secure architecture, implementing a security library, and defining security concepts to be evaluated with a certification body, in addition to leading the work package that encompasses these activities.
IKERLAN will also play an important role in the railway case study, where it will support CAF Signalling in the development and analysis of the future certifiability of their case study.
