"The Road to Commercialization"

Micro-Nano-Bio Convergence Systems is a major domain within the field of Microsystems & Smart Systems Integration, which is being supported by the European Commission under the Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) priority. The EU-funded projects in this domain focus on advanced systems by developing and integrating converging micro-nano-bio and information & communication technologies. The MNBS cluster includes projects for "in-vitro" testing and for "in-vivo" interaction with the human body as well as analytical systems for environment and food applications.

The 5th cluster workshop of European Commission (EC) funded projects on Micro-Nano-Bio Convergence Systems (MNBS) is co-organized by the European Commission and IKERLAN-IK4 a private not-profit Technological Research Centre in the north of Spain and will take place in April 5 & 6, 2011 in Mondragón, Spain.

OBJECTIVES

For the second year in a row, this event will be open under invitation to external participants of the MNBS cluster:

• to encourage the diffusion and exchange of information on the development of science and technology.
• to identify synergies and possible collaborations to tackle critical issues covering the full value chain from R&D to exploitation.
• to reach common understanding of future challenges and topics for further R&D.

The MNBS workshop will regroup FP7 running projects but also terminated FP6 projects and invited presentations on relevant topics from external stakeholders.

OPTIMIZING THE PATHWAY TO COMMERCIALIZATION

The focus this year will be in "The Road to the Commercialization" and we could highlight:

• Mr. An Nguyen-Dinh, from Vernon SA, will show "MEMs devices to Medical Diagnostic market. A case study: Ultrasonic Imaging Probes".
• Mr. Alain Ripart, from Sorin Group, will present "From MEMS to Active Cardiac Implantable Devices: What does the market need?
• Mr. Rik Thijssen, Director of Vitens Solutions, will share his own experience on "How to bring a lab on chip diagnostic to the market" by presenting the "Legyon Case Study".
• Mr. Christophe Amiel, Executive Director at Voisin Consulting will, present "Regulation as driver of innovation for medical device technologies".
• Mrs. Claudia Gaertner, CEO of Microfluid ChipShop, will show "Creating Jobs & value experiences in building a microfluidics company".
• Dr. María Aguirre, Director of the Biobasque Agency", will show the "Convergence and integration at the core of the Basque BioRegion".
• The Coordination and Support Action of the FP7, COWIN, will present their activities and plans to facilitate the commercialization of the results of FP6 and FP7 research projects in Microsystems technologies. Attendees will have the chance to have a first face to face contact with experts in the commercialization of technology. Dedicated meetings and interviews will be organized on demand and registration.
• Dr. Andreas Lymberis will present the future opportunities for research funding for MNBS projects in FP7.

Finaly participants will have the opportunities to give their inputs for the preparation of 2013 work program in ICT and the Frame Work Program 8 of the European Commission.

REGISTRATION

Participation in the workshop is conditional upon the invitation of the organizers and collaborators of MNBS 2011. All the attendees must be registered. Please note that interested parties are advised to register early as the number of participants is limited (100 max.)
